2017 NFL Combine: 9 questions that need to be answered in Indianapolis

The NFL Scouting Combine starts in Indianapolis this week, and the whirlwind of workout drills and interviews will give some clarity to the offseason leading up to the 2017 NFL Draft. That is, of course, if the following key questions can get answered.

How tall is Mitch Trubisky?

Johnny Boychuk Mens Jersey During a broadcast of Senior Bowl practices, Mike Mayock of NFL Network said that scouts told him that Trubisky might only measure in at 6¡¯1. If that happens, his distinction as the draft¡¯s top quarterback may come into question. Don¡¯t think it matters? Russell Wilson of the Seahawks was the only quarterback 6¡¯1 or shorter to start on a team with a winning record last season.

Chandler Jones, Arizona Cardinals linebacker

Limited Womens Mike Iupati Jersey Head coach Bruce Arians already said the Cardinals will franchise Jones if a deal isn¡¯t reached, so it¡¯s hard to imagine Arizona would let the guy walk in free agency after sacrificing so much to get him in the first place.

General manager Steve Keim will need to get the deal with Jones done quickly, though. The Cardinals could have more than 20 players ¡ª many of whom are starters ¡ª hitting the free agent market in the upcoming offseason. If Jones and his agent feel they have leverage, the Cardinals¡¯ hand could be forced here.

Fortunately, the two sides eventually agreed on a deal before the tag came into play again.

Berry has been through a lot with the Chiefs. Last in 2014, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin¡¯s lymphoma and had to miss the rest of the season to receive treatment.

Jaguars vs. Chargers: 3 things we learned in San Diego’s 33-14 win

Authentic Mens Paul Kariya Jersey
The Jacksonville Jaguars looked like a different team, more vivacious and productive, early on with rookie Blake Bortles making his first NFL start in a Week 4 game in San Diego. Better wasn’t enough. The Chargers quickly snuffed out whatever life the Jaguars had with 23 unanswered points on their way to a 33-14 win and the top spot in the AFC West.

Toby Gerhart unpacked his lunch pail and gave the Jaguars their first rushing touchdown of the season … and first since November of last year. San Diego struck back with a 47-yard touchdown to Eddie Royal, but Bortles answered that with a touchdown pass to tight end Nic Jacobs to put the Jags back on top, 14-10. And that’s where the fun ended.

Rivers hit Royal again for another long touchdown with just over a minute to go in the first half. The Chargers never had to look back. He threw three touchdowns Sunday to give him a total of nine on the season.

The win moves the Chargers to 3-1 on the season, giving them a lead for the division over the Denver Broncos, idling this week on an early bye. Jacksonville left still looking for its first win in what’s supposed to be a better season for the Jaguars.

Authentic Mens Michael Bennett Jersey Here’s what we learned from this one:

Philip Rivers is in MVP form. There’s plenty to like about what the Chargers are doing this season, but everything starts and ends with Rivers. He’s got more than 1,100 yards and accounts for the bulk of their scoring output this season. It’s only Week 4, but if voters had to pick the most valuable player in the league right now, it’s hard to make a case for anyone over the weird guy in a bolo tie.

Five Dallas Hall of Famers — Aikman, Smith, Irvin, quarterback Roger Staubach and running back Tony Dorsett — presented Jones with a painting depicting him in the hall’s bright yellow jacket. Jones was elected this month and will be inducted in August.

Andy Reid doubled down on his quarterback, insisting there’s “no question” Alex Smith is the man.

In December, ESPN’s Adam Schefter suggested the former third-round pick with 18 NFL starts to his name “could fetch $13-15 million per year on his next deal,” which caused widespread outrage among nameless eggs on Twitter, but should not have. There is a lack of quality starters on the market and a handful of teams that need one. Over 21 lifetime appearances, Glennon has completed nearly 60 percent of his passes with a 2:1 touchdown-to-interception ratio (30:15 in total) and an average passer rating hovering around 90.

My hesitation regarding Glennon, however, comes when looking at some of the other available options. If you’re devoting that level of resources already, why not commit fully and do whatever it takes to woo one of the more proven options on the market? Teams that find themselves in this market more often than not almost always seem to be in a perpetual haze, a few steps below where they need to be.

Expect that stance to be tested if Romo is ultimately released. Reluctant to part with draft-pick compensation or devote a substantial portion of the salary cap to a declining, injury-prone quarterback, general manager John Elway will cross that bridge if he comes to it.

Kansas City Chiefs: In late January, Andy Reid doubled down on his quarterback, insisting there’s “no question” Alex Smith is the man. A week ago, general manager John Dorsey emphasized that the Chiefs have “said all along” Smith is the starter. That hasn’t prevented every NFL insider in the business from listing Kansas City as a potential landing spot for Romo.

Alex Smith has four years invested in Reid’s offense. Since 2011, Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers are the only quarterbacks to lead their teams to more wins than Smith (60). With Smith under center, the Chiefs’ .793 winning percentage is the NFL’s best since the middle of the 2015 season. This isn’t to say that Smith doesn’t have shortcomings. His inability to make plays down the field has put a ceiling on the Chiefs’ postseason success.

Lynch said Denver Broncos general manager/executive vice president John Elway has been an adviser throughout this process.

The crop of teams battling for the last handful of at-large bids to the 2017 NCAA tournament isn¡¯t just weak, but ¡°historically weak.¡± The term implies that we¡¯ve stumbled onto some sort of new ground here, that we have never, ever seen anything close to resembling the frailty we find ourselves face to face with this year.

But, wait, doesn¡¯t it seem like we¡¯ve done this before? We have! In fact, we¡¯ve done it, like, every year for as long as anyone can remember.

A quick Google search for ¡°historically weak bubble¡± turns up at least one mention from each of the past six years within the first two pages of results.
Nelson Agholor Mens Jersey
From Ballin¡¯ is a Habit in 2011: “What excited me so much about John is [that] John had a pretty good deal before coming here,” Shanahan said. “I remember when he told me why he wanted to be a general manager, and he really missed someone winning and losing at the end of a game.

Larry Donnell Mens Jersey That would be tough, even in a year with a historically weak bubble and an expanded tournament. So Stew? My advice? Beat St. Mary’s.

“As soon as we started having conversations, I knew that this was going to be a possibility, so the biggest thing was, ‘Can I get my family on board?'” Lynch said. “Ultimately, we got there. At first my wife said, ‘You go make this decision,’ and I said, ‘No, no, no, we have to make this decision.’ I got them to the point where they were as excited as I was and pulled the trigger.”

Lynch said Denver Broncos general manager/executive vice president John Elway has been an adviser throughout this process. When Elway retired from football, he threw himself into a variety of business ventures but eventually found his way back to football, first in the Arena League and now in his current role with the Broncos.

2016 NFL Combine: Tight ends take part in the bench press

The bench press might not be the most important drill for receivers or running backs at the NFL Combine, but it’s typically a big deal for offensive and defensive linemen. There is another position where it matters how many times players can put up 225 pounds, and that’s the tight ends. While today’s tight ends are often considered giant receivers, the majority of the best tight ends in the league are also very good blockers.

If Hayward indeed makes it to six — and that looks pretty likely as he’s averaging 22.2 points per game, up from 19.7 last season — he’ll join a group of 13 players. Arron Afflalo, Elden Campbell, Alex English, Derek Harper, Avery Johnson, DeAndre Jordan, Shawn Kemp, Kevin McHale, Michael Redd, Malik Rose and Earl Watson did it over their first seven seasons, like Hayward, while J.J. Redick did it starting in his third season and Maurice Cheeks his fourth.

Elite Youth Britton Colquitt Jersey Improving your scoring average seven seasons in a row is even more difficult. Just three players have done that since the merger: Harper, Jordan and Redick. Jordan’s streak is still active, though since he scored 12.7 points per game last season, he’s going to have to improve his current 12.0 average to become the first player in modern NBA history to up his per-game scoring eight seasons in a row.

Elite Youth Ryan Anderson Jersey Although most the attention will be on these on-field workouts, there is still a ton happening in Indy away from the TV cameras. The glamor group of quarterbacks, wide receivers and running backs will attend an NFLPA meeting, undergo psychological testing, interview with teams and perform the bench press. This might be the most critical day for some of these prospects who come to Indianapolis with questionable backgrounds and off-field issues.

Cleveland has more than $100 million in cap space, so there’s really so such thing as overspending here.

Terrelle Pryor, Cleveland Browns wide receiver

The Browns spent four picks on wide receivers, including a first-rounder, in last year’s draft, but there’s a strong argument to make that they should franchise the converted quarterback, especially after giving Jamie Collins a new contract. The Browns didn’t have many bright spots in 2016, but Pryor was one of them. In his first full season at receiver, Pryor led the team in targets, catches, receiving yards, and touchdown receptions.

Cleveland has more than $100 million in cap space, so there’s really so such thing as overspending here.

Technically, Summers didn’t try to ditch the option when he took over. But he didn’t love it enough. And God could tell.

Summers is a defensive guy. He’s not married to any offensive system, and that made people nervous. He’s made some reassurances.

“For those of you wanting to ask, we are going to look (offensively) the way we look now,” he said. “It’ll be the gun option … the gun, triple-option. What we’ve got to do is be able to throw the ball.”

Still, his coordinator hires were interesting. Summers brought in two locals — former Valdosta State head coach David Dean and former Valdosta high school coach Rance Gillespie — as co-coordinators. Gillespie was Chris Hatcher’s offensive coordinator at GS from 2007-09, when he helped unsuccessfully shift from running 75 percent of the time in 2007 to throwing 54 percent of the time in 2009. Meanwhile, at Valdosta State last year, Dean’s squad ran just 53 percent of the time.

“I’m gonna say it one more time. We’re Georgia Southern. Our colors are blue and white. We call ourselves the Bald Eagles. We call our offense the Georgia Power Company — that is a terrific name for an offense — and our snap count is ‘Rate Hike.’ We practice on the banks of Beautiful Eagle Creek, and that’s in Statesboro, Georgia, the gnat capital of America. Our weekends begin on Thursday. The coeds outnumber the men three to two. They are all good-lookin’, and they are all rich. And folks, you can’t beat that, and you just can’t beat Georgia Southern. And you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.”

Belichick said the fake kneel-down play in which running back Dion Lewis hurt his hamstring is called “The Hilltopper play.”

To jump out of a shallow pool onto the deck is a feat unto itself.

To do it almost six weeks after suffering a knee injury is in an entirely different category.

Yet that¡¯s how well All-Pro Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson¡¯s rehabilitation from a sprained MCL suffered in Week 17 appears to be going. On Wednesday, Johnson posted a video on Twitter of him jumping out of a rehab pool, with the water around mid-thigh height, at the Cardinals¡¯ practice facility. Accompanying the photo was the caption ¡°Progress going great!¡±
Mika Zibanejad Jersey
The family returned to the hospital throughout Kyle Rudolph’s childhood; only those times, it was to say thank-you by volunteering. Rudolph’s years at Notre Dame were dotted with trips to children’s hospitals in South Bend, and since 2011, when the Vikings drafted him, Rudolph has been a regular presence as part of the team’s four-decade partnership with the Masonic Children’s Hospital.

Joe Greene Womens Jersey Now Rudolph is putting his own imprint on that partnership. He and his wife Jordan announced Tuesday that fundraising has been completed for Kyle Rudolph’s End Zone — a 2,500-square-foot space at the hospital where children and teenagers can play, relax and engage in healing therapies. The goal is to have the space open by the start of the 2017 football season.

But the Packers drafted Randall and Rollins in the first and second rounds, respectively, in 2015 to be their cornerbacks of the future. And, barring an unexpected marquee veteran signing in free agency, the future is now. Both battled injuries last season but even before Randall and Rollins got banged up, they were inconsistent at best.

The Hilltopper Play. Belichick said the fake kneel-down play in which running back Dion Lewis hurt his hamstring is called “The Hilltopper play.”

Kirk Cousins is the top free-agent quarterback available, but it’s unlikely Washington will let him go.

The other factor is that Cousins probably won’t be as aggressive about locking in a one-year deal. Last year, he signed the franchise tag two days after he was offered the $20 million tender, which spoke to his desire for security and the relative lack of interest his agent suspected Cousins might get from the open market. That’s all different now. Cousins probably will wait to sign his tender in the hopes of retaining as much leverage as possible in securing a long-term contract.

Sign Cousins to a long-term extension. The longer Washington waits, the less leverage it has in retaining Cousins. It has no other viable option at quarterback and no path to one, barring a decision to sign Romo or Tyrod Taylor, who would each raise more questions than simply retaining Cousins. Cousins’ agent knows that. Washington also would be forced to pay Cousins a 44 percent increase in his salary if it retained him with a franchise tag for the third consecutive season, which would be a staggering $34.4 million.

Authentic Womens Kelechi Osemele Jersey Then, much to the delight of Blue Jackets fans everywhere, Atkinson scored his first career All-Star goal to send the game into intermission tied at 3-3. Atkinson was a late replacement for the injured Evgeni Malkin.

Authentic Womens Jimmy Hayes Jersey Dynamic Maple Leafs rookie Auston Matthews scored his first career All-Star goal in the opening minute of the second period. Honestly, it was the most casual goal you’ll ever see in pro hockey.

Things kept snow-balling. We’re not sure if new goalies Tuukka Rask and Holtby tried very hard. Working to confirm. John Tavares, Taylor Hall, and Seth Jones all waltzed in untouched to give the Metro a 6-4 lead. And Gretzky was so proud.

NHL scores 2017: Kings, Canadiens, Senators sleepwalk through shutouts

Did anyone let the Los Angeles Kings, Montreal Canadiens, or Ottawa Senators know they were supposed to play on Tuesday?

Authentic Youth Jon Weeks Jersey The trio of Stanley Cup Playoffs contenders dropped embarrassing losses one right after another, getting out-scored 15-0 by their opponents.

Bickell¡¯s return to the NHL was up in the air, though he went on record as recently as the All-Star Break to affirm his commitment to returning. Bickell has been taking treatments of Tysabri, an intravenous drug required once a month to manage his symptoms. His next treatment comes within the next few days, and after that he¡¯ll see if returning soon is still on the table.

“It all depends too on what other guys are doing, if they’re going on a huge streak,” Bickell said. “I like to see them win. If they need me, I’m sure an extra week of me skating is not going to hurt me. We’re just going to wait until after the next treatment and after the bye week and go from there.”
Bickell concluded his conditioning skate with the team on Tuesday, but expressed willingness to take a conditioning assignment to the AHL to make sure he was ready to play before joining the Hurricanes again.

The Hurricanes acquired Bickell as part of a Chicago Blackhawks salary dump in the offseason. Bickell appeared in just seven games with Carolina before the diagnosis sidelined him. Bickell won the Stanley Cup with Chicago in 2013 and 2015.

This meeting seems like par for the course when you’re discussing a general manager performing due diligence. Similar to when a scout attends a certain game. More often than not it means the scout is simply performing his job, as opposed to the early signs of a big trade. We know for a fact that Bergevin is a very active hands-on type general manager.

Regardless of what happened yesterday, we’re probably best off taking the assumptions that rise from this report with a grain of salt, and yes, that includes my very own assumptions laid forth in this article.

Durant was actively avoiding this play, much to Draymond Green’s screaming chagrin.

The 2000 Ravens were one of the best defenses in recent history, but they opened as just a 1-point favorite against the Giants before closing as a field goal favorite. They dominated the game from start to finish, outscoring the over/under by themselves. The over/under of 33 is tied for the lowest in Super Bowl history, and the lowest in 26 years.

In the apotheosis of the Warriors’ crunch-time woes this season, their loss of a 24-point lead to Memphis, Durant was actively avoiding this play, much to Draymond Green’s screaming chagrin. Curry stood with the rock, ready to run a pick-and-roll. Durant demanded the ball back, prompting an awkward exchange, an isolation brick and the Green histrionics.

With Durant in the fold, that same number actually dipped to 115.7 through the Christmas Day game, an almost unthinkable outcome given the addition of Durant’s talents. But then Curry piped up about his offensive involvement. Since then? The Warriors’ offense has climbed to 120.3, right about where many expected they’d settle.

But the real impetus for the Titans’ surge was the improvement of quarterback Marcus Mariota. Beginning with Week 4, Mariota recorded the NFL’s fifth-best QBR (75.3), throwing 22 touchdowns and five interceptions in that span.

The Redskins realized they needed a new direction on defense but wound up promoting linebackers coach Greg Manusky to replace fired defensive coordinator Joe Barry after failing to attract an external candidate. Manusky will be better off if general manager Scott McCloughan can upgrade at safety and defensive line this offseason. A long-term contract for Cousins could also smooth the nervous edge off his performances.
Limited Mens Marshawn Lynch Jersey
Limited Mens Torry Holt Jersey As such, it’s fair to wonder if the team benefited from above-average quarterback play and a coincidental series of unlikely events, rather than having put itself on a consistent playoff track.
