NFL Players Association Executive Director DeMaurice Smith believes the NFL’s change in policy on the national anthem is designed to exert control on players.
During an appearance Friday on ESPN’s聽Get Up!聽show, Smith expressed his concerns regarding the new anthem rules:
He earned a Provisional Franchise Quarterback Learners Permit with that performance. He now makes sense as a bridge quarterback for some rebuilding team with a hotshot rookie, or as the backup who pushes a fading veteran. He deserves a chance to prove he can replicate his 2017 success, but with a rock-solid Plan B in place if he cannot.
But there are no challengers at all in Denver. Keenum’s backups are Paxton Lynch, who went 0-2 with a 72 quarterback rating last year, and Chad Kelly, a seventh-round rookie. In other words, your college roommates: The guy who skipped class to play Overwatch all day and the one who kept getting out of trouble because his uncle was a big deal in the alumni association.
The Broncos are actively avoiding quarterback competitions after two years of juggling Lynch, Trevor Siemian and Brock Osweiler. They believe they can win a Super Bowl with great defense and ball control, because they just did so three years ago. They wanted a veteran starter and a drama-free offseason, and they weren’t about to get picky.

Gray later asked it he was happy, to which he responded; I have my moments.
These remarks are the latest in what has been an interesting few months regarding the Patriots. In January, Seth Wickersham of ESPN reported on the apparent discord between the organization’s big three 鈥?Brady, Belichick and Kraft.
The Patriots denied the report and have said the three are all on the same page. But examples like Rob Gronkowski’s near retirement and the curious Malcolm Butler Super Bowl benching would suggest otherwise.

Either way, Brady’s latest comments certainly raise an eyebrow.
They took a defiant stance, in a city where 39.2 percent of the population is black, per the U.S. Census Bureau, by not describing it as an isolated incident and acknowledging the systemic issue. The Bucks chose to stand with Brown, stand with their fans and stand with their city by using their platform and influence to shine light on an issue that has resulted in unarmed black people dying at the hands of police.
Sound familiar? This is what Kaepernick wanted to do.
